While it is very easy to restore a photograph by blurring the damages and imperfections and airbrushing the faces to make photo as if it was taken yesterday, a true challenge for any professional photo restoration artist is to preserve the authenticity of the original.

A Naval Commission signed by Abraham Lincoln as President and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy Gideon Welles was sent to our studio in dire need of restoration. The document was mounted in a cheap frame with broken glass and over the years the velum on which document was printed and written became warped and infested by mold and mildew.

CLEANING A PHOTOGRAPH FROM SMOKE RESIDUE
Over time, tobacco smoke containing nicotine and other harmful chemicals build-up can ruin paintings, photographs. The ugly, yellowish-brown sticky film will coat any surface, making photographs lose their original appearance and destroying the photo emulation layer.

A rare Civil War Union Army Discharge Certificate was very faded with much of the text written in iron gall ink lost or made unreadable by creases and stains. What made this document so unique was the list of battles and skirmishes that the soldier fought in, written on the back of the document.

Perhaps if Ms. Cat Weaver started by consulting a restoration professional before trying herself to restore a family heirloom photograph with Super Glue and nearly completely destroying it in the process, she would not have to cover her embarrassment by blaming others, posting false and derogatory reviews, and lowering herself to name calling and online harassment.
