RESTORATION OF A PHOTOGRAPH DAMAGED IN A HOUSE FIRE
|Shortly after Lindbergh's historic flight, on July 4th, 1929 two young aviators flew a daring mission to complete the first and only air mail delivery from Long Island to Fire Island.
The photograph taken immediately after their landing, Unfortunately, years later this unique and historic photograph was heavily stained and damaged in house fire.
A bit of historical research was conducted during the restoration process to determine whether the unusual appearance of the pilot in the center of the photograph was natural or if it was caused by the damage to the photograph itself. It was confirmed that prior to the flight the young daredevil suffered a broken nose in a car crash. This led to retaining the pilots appearance since true restoration calls for preservation of all and every detail of historical or personal significance.
